My call with my learning partner was very informative and inspiring. I am still marvelling at the similarities and how our work/life parallels each other in so many ways. We both work for the Provincial Government in full time employment. We have active trainers’ roles within our line of work. We are brand new to adult learning as we simultaneously voiced navigating our way through the busyness of life to carry loads of responsibilities only to pursue solitary moments of quiet and time.
During our call, I shared the development of time management in navigating work and school and my learning partner expressed gratitude, that I had gave her little nuggets that she will apply to her own way of learning moving forward.
My learning partner shared about her work with Crown Counsel Provincial Government, working as a training manager. She offers modernized training to new employees as an online approach. Her role began as a pilot project and her agency saw great value in having the consistency delivered in the same way to all new staff. My learning partner was the leader with ‘boots on the ground’ in developing resources required for this program.
In the call my learning partner discussed one trend in her field being the development of a virtual delivery of service because of Covid however, its impact had proven effective thus, it will remain in place. Online learning was helpful for new staff to work online at their own pace and access training even from rural areas, so the agency considered it a good alternative to teaching face to face.
My learning partner is committed to keeping up new changing technology and to continue her proficiency and confidence as an Instructor. IT support helps her and new staff when needed. She conducts this training mostly online but hosts in person sessions when deemed necessary as this trajectory has shifted now mostly to virtual online learning.
As a mother of two teenager, she is incredibly busy working full time and being enrolled in school and she recognise that she has been neglecting herself at times. She promised to do better in this area and this touched my heart hearing that she will consider my ideas of taking time outs in which I shared with her.
I am very grateful for our call as it was most refreshing to chat with someone so lovely. I marvel at our similarities and wonder if our instructor was so clever to make such good connection as she did. It was nice to reflect on our accomplishments and address our struggles of trying of fit everything in. Moreover, at the end of the day we are human just trying our best and that’s really all we can hope for!
